Super Eagles

Super Eagles of Nigeria legend, Jay-Jay Okocha has disclosed that Nigeria will not have it easy when they face Ghana in next month’s 2022 Fifa World Cup qualification play-off.

According to the former Nigeria skipper, the Black Stars will be a tough nut to crack in his side’s quest to make a seventh appearance toward the global football showpiece in Qatar.

Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off 1st leg against Ghana will take place at the Cape Coast stadium on Thursday, March 24, 2022. The reverse fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on March 27.

The 1st leg encounter will be the 58th clash at senior level between the two West African countries in a rivalry spanning seven decades.

The Black stars would be aiming to appease their fans by earning a fourth World Cup appearance after a disappointing elimination from the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon. Ghana have qualified for three FIFA World Cup tournaments; 2006, 2010, and 2014.

Whereas, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be hoping to qualify for the global football showpiece for the seventh time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions.

“Ghana versus Nigeria match is never an easy one. It is more about the rivalry, it is a pride match and a bragging right one,” Okocha was quoted on Thisdaylive website.

“For me, what is most important is to get the ticket. It doesn’t matter how, even if we don’t play beautiful football.

“What is important is getting the ticket to the World Cup in Qatar. It is the result that matters.” Okocha said.

The match is scheduled for 19:00Hrs kick off at the Cape Coast Stadium.
