Following the tournament’s draw in Ivory Coast on Friday, Laryea Kingston, head coach of the Black Starlets, declared his lads are prepared for the 2024 U17 WAFU Zone B.
Ghana was drawn into Group A with football heavyweights Ivory Coast and Benin, in the bustling city of Abidjan.
Kingston, though, approaches the tournament’s challenges with respect and determination, even in the face of formidable opponents.
“We respect every country that will be playing at the tournament. Each participant is a potential winner. So, we respect everyone. But we’re ready,” Kingston affirmed in an exclusive statement to ghanafa.org.
All eyes will be on Accra, Ghana, the host country for this thrilling event, which is set to begin on May 15 and run through May 28.
Accra, home to football legends and a hub for up-and-coming talent, offers an exciting environment for both players and spectators.
Kingston, a former Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder, has been very particular about the Black Starlets’ preparations, stressing the value of being physically and mentally prepared.
“The technical team and the players are all ready for the tournament. And we’ll take it a match at a time,” he emphasized, underlining the team’s focus on approaching each game with unwavering determination and dedication.
The host country, Ghana, was drawn into Group A with bitter competitors, Benin and Ivory Coast.
The WAFU U17 Tournament will act as a qualifying event for the 2025 U-17 AFCON Tournament.
The Black Starlets are scheduled to leave Ghana’s coast on Friday to compete in a four-nation tournament in Russia prior to the commencement of the WAFU Tournament.
