The Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Ebenezer Kojo Kum is meeting with leaders of Upper, Lower Dixcove traditional areas and the Security Council over Monday’s alleged attack on six persons.
A divisional chief of the Upper Dixcove traditional area and five others were assaulted by unknown persons while returning from a visit to a disputed parcel of land.
The incident is believed to have been a result of an age-old land dispute between the two towns which led to an attack on the Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Akwasi Agyemang in 2019.
Following Monday’s occurrence, the Minister has visited the town to met the feuding factions.
He told Citi News government will investigate the attack and bring perpetrators to book.
“There has been an unfortunate incident at Upper Dixcove and a result of which I have come here with a delegation to meet the MUSEC. An invitation has also been extended to both parties. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the parties involved to keep calm. Everyone should be rest assured that the issues that have arisen as a result of what has happened will be thoroughly investigated for peace to be restored.”
Meanwhile, the Western Regional Police command has deployed personnel to patrol the Dixcove enclave.
The Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olivia Adiku in a Citi News interview said no arrest has been made yet.
“So far no arrest has been made because the victims are still on admission. The regional CID has taken over the case, and they have been able to send medical forms to them. So we are waiting for them to be okay, so we send the forms to them so investigations continue. The police are patrolling the area both day and night. So far Dixcove is calm. MUSEC is also meeting so at the end of the day there will be further updates.”
Intervene in Dixcove land dispute – Hima Dekyi to Akufo-Addo
The Paramount Chief of Upper Dixcove, Obrempong Hima Dekyi has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to intervene in the chieftaincy clashes and a land dispute between the Upper and Lower Dixcove paramountcy.
His call follows an attack of his mother, Christiana Akua Yeboah, and five other relations after they visited some plots of land claimed by Nana Akwasi Agyemang who is the Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, who himself was allegedly beaten in 2019.
Obrempong Hima Dekyi, who was addressing a press conference on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, said he is not responsible for the attack on Nana Akwasi Agyemang which saw President Nana Akufo-Addo visiting him at the hospital.
He, therefore, appealed to the President to help resolve the dispute for lasting peace.
“In this 21st-century era, we can not sit when people have become so lawless, and they take the law into their own hands and try to breach the flawless peace we have all enjoyed.”
