Concerns regarding the ongoing transfer of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares to Rock City Hotel, owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, have been voiced by Organized Labor.
Consequently, the group has warned of a potential nationwide worker strike and urged the government to halt the process.
The sale of 60% of SSNIT’s interests in Rock City Hotel, Elmina Beach Resort, Ride Royal Hotel, Labadi Beach Hotel, and LA Palm Royal Beach Resort is almost complete.
MP of North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa has filed a petition with CHRAJ in response to the widespread criticism this action has received.
“The process is going on and in fact they are speeding it up and we don’t think that is right,” stated Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, during a press conference in Accra on Monday.
“We do not think that the regulation that guides the sale of state assets was followed. We do not think that the necessary due diligence was done. we cannot imagine that state properties will be sold to a minister of state.”
“For us, it is state capture and that should be stopped and stopped immediately. And if the Minister for Pensions who is also the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations fails to stop SSNIT, we workers of Ghana, we own the funds, we will stop that process.”
