Black Princesses

Black Princesses head Coach Ben Fokuo has reiterated his side’s readiness to avoid complacency against the Ethiopians in the second leg of the final stage of the the Women’s FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana boosted their chances of clinching one of the tickets to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica 2022 after they claimed a 3-0 win over Ethiopia in the first leg of the final round, a fortnight ago.

A brace from Salamatu Abdulai and Cecilia Nyama’s strike in the first half was all the Black Princesses needed to silence the Ethiopians in front of the home fans at Abebe Bikila Stadium and took a giant step towards securing their qualification ticket in the 1st leg.

Speaking to GFA.org ahead of their encounter against Ethiopia, Coach Fokuo revealed that his side will leave no stone unturned in their quest to book a ticket to their sixth consecutive FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

” We won in Ethiopia but that is not all. My Technical team and I after we arrived watched the match against Ethiopia to correct some mistakes and I know we will win convincingly in the return fixture and qualify to Costa Rica. We are taking the match with all the seriousness it deserves and the fans should know we will go all out for the maximum points” He said.

The FIFA U-20 women’s World Cup is slated for Costa Rica in August 2022.
A draw for Ghana will be enough to seal qualification.

Ghana have made a successive appearance at the last five U20 editions, although failed to make it past the first round – a poor run they will aim to end in Costa Rica later this year if they eventually make it past Ethiopia.

The game is is scheduled for Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium at 3pm.
