Ghana are champions of the inaugural WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup following a 3-1 penalty victory over arch-rivals Nigeria at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday.
The Black Princesses drew first blood through skipper Stella Nyamekye in the 38th minute when she despatched a penalty after a foul on Comfort Owusu.
Nigeria’s Flourish Sabastien levelled the score in the 86th minute following an error from the Ghanaian goalkeeper Amenyaku.
With neither team able to break the deadlock in regulation time, the match proceeded to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.
Amenyaku became the hero of the shootout, making two crucial saves sealing Ghana’s glorious triumph in the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup.
