Lovers of traditional and contemporary dance were last Sunday, enthralled to some Ghanaian cultural and foreign dance during the Sparke Day Event, at Vivie’s Dance Factory, in Accra.

The Sparkle Day event is an annual dance recital aimed at promoting arts through education, performance and entertainment.

This year’s event dubbed “Jingle Jangle Fair” saw 243 performers aged between three to 16 years, thrilled patrons with some amazing and catchy performances in traditional dance and drumming, hip pop, afro pop and contemporary dances.

In an interview with the media on the reason behind the programme, Mrs. Vivian Boateng, the Chief Executive Officer of Vivie’s Dance Factory said, dance was an expression of people’s confidence, posture and teamwork.

She said it was also the surest way of creating an all-inclusive atmosphere that provided people the opportunity to learn new cultures in order to foster peace.

“We have children from different background, different countries and this because Ghana is known for its hospitality, we wanted to foster inter-culture relationship, where everybody comes together to have fun without any discrimination,” she said

She commended the parents for their unflinching support to the cause of their wards, adding that it was the beginning of better things to come from the art industry.

“The show has been wonderful, the children have been awesome, parents have been supportive and I can say that this is just the beginning of great things to happen in Ghana”.

“Training a child to become as good as you want is unending. When you watch the performances you could see that some of the performers were outstanding and you notice that these are the people we have trained for a long time”.

She said one unique thing about this year’s event was the availability of a studio that offered them the opportunity to groom and nurture the talents available.

“One unique thing about this year’s event is that we now have studios where we can groom and nurture students unlike the previous editions where the students were trained in the various schools and this was shown in the performances of the students who were trained in the studio. The school doesn’t give us the freedom to train for long”, she noted.

“The children have so much potential and I’m passionate about it. If you grab them as young as they are and you train them I can assure you the art in the country is going to grow big because they are the ones who are going to fill the theater in the future because they’ve benefited from it”, she stated.
