Former President John Dramani Mahama has admonished the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to use the 2024 elections to redeem its image given the circumstances under which the 2020 polls were held.
“A lot of things didn’t go well especially the discovery of extra ballot papers,” he said in an exclusive interview with Media General‘s William Evans-Nkum on Monday, September 13.
“We’ve held elections, we’ve had ECs – from [Dr Kwadwo] Afari Gyan and all that. I’ve never seen people in possession of such authentic ballot papers, same format, everything. There’s no difference. You cannot tell the difference between that ballot paper and what the EC had and they had in possession of the stamp that the EC had.”
The three-time Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) observed it appears the EC is not bothered about the irregularities that characterized the 2020 elections.
“We will just make sure that it doesn’t happen again,” he warned.
The former president was speaking from the Ashanti Region, where he has been in the past couple of days as part of his two-day tour to thank his supporters for the votes in the 2020 elections.
He increased his votes in the Region by almost a double of the votes in 2016.
