In the run-up to the general election on December 7, President Nana Akufo Addo has reassured Ghanaians that his administration is committed to preserving the nation’s remarkable democratic credentials and territorial integrity.
According to him, Ghana has become known throughout the West African Sub-region as the model of democracy and peace, which makes her a beacon of hope for luring and keeping foreign investment.
Under his leadership as President of the Republic of Ghana, Akufo Addo promised that the nation would not descend into political unrest that would undermine the years’ worth of socioeconomic and democratic achievements.
President Akufo-Addo urged everyone to avoid actions that would jeopardize national peace during a grand durbar of the Chiefs and people of Effutu (Winneba) in the Central Region on Saturday, which marked the culmination of the yearly Aboakyer Festival.
“Promoting Tradition and Development through Aboakyer Celebration” was the theme of the week-long celebration.
On Saturday, April 27, the celebrations got underway with a regatta/tug-of-war, marathon races, a health walk, a musical performance, and clean-up projects in homes and communities.
Elections are not a political arena for fighting, according to President Akufo-Addo, who also said, “Let’s contribute our quota for a peaceful and successful election to protect our democracy.”
“The world awaits the outcome and events leading to, during and after the December 7 polls, as a result, all must show political maturity and carry out routine works in peace to prove to the world that Ghana is a peaceful country,” he said.
In his address, the President named Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s candidate for flagbearer. He also urged the people to cast a sizable ballot in favor of him and the NPP lawmakers.
“The party had undertaken huge development projects across the country, and deserved to be maintained, he added.
