Black stars record top scorer, Asamoah Gyan is relishing a tough encounter in Ghana’s group stage draw.
Gyan who was in Cameroon and assisted in picking the lots for the draw said the group was tricky but expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to progress and do well at the Tournament hosted in Cameroon.
“I think it’s a tricky group,” legendary Ghana striker Gyan said of the Black Stars first-round opponents for the upcoming event.
“Morocco are up there, I think they conceded just one goal in the qualification, which statistically are one of the strongest in the group.
“Ghana are also up there. That’s my country, I will be rooting for my country. But everybody who has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations is coming to win. So statistically, we’re up there but we don’t know what is going to happen.
“We just have to stay focused and do what we can do to just qualify from this group and then we see what happens because without [qualifying from] the group, you cannot be thinking of winning the cup.
“So we have to make sure we qualify from the group stage, and then think about winning the cup.”
The Black stars have been drawn against Morocco, Comoros and Gabon in Group C of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021.
Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of Ghana with 51 goals. He represented Ghana at three FIFA World Cup editions in 2006, 2010 and 2014. With six goals to his name, he is the top African goalscorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup.
Gyan has also represented Ghana in seven AFCON editions between 2008 and 2019, helping the Black Stars to finish as runner-up in 2010 and 2015.
