Eid-ul-Fitr

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Interior has declared Thursday, May 13, as a public holiday as Muslims celebrate their annual Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to a press release statement signed by Ambrose Dery, Minister for Interior, the day is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.

Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar (though the Muslim use of a lunar calendar means that it may fall in any season of the year).

It is widely believed that Prophet Muhammad got the first revelation of the Holy Quran during the holy month of Ramadan. Eid ul-Fitr is also celebrated to pay respect to Allah for providing strength and endurance during the month-long fasting rituals.

Below is the Press Statement from the Ministry of Interior:

The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, 13th May, 2021 which marks Eid-ul-Fitr, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.

Signed
AMBROSE DERY (MP)
MINISTER FOR THE INTERIOR

Issued in Accra this Friday, 7th May, 2021
