Thomas Partey

Black stars deputy skipper, Thomas Teye Partey could be missing when the Black Stars line up against Ethiopia and the Bafana Bafana in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Arsenal Midfielder suffered a tight groin in training on Thursday. As a result, he missed the Premier League victory against Watford on Sunday afternoon.

On the back of a run of successive games for The Gunners, having seemingly put behind an injury plague that blighted his performances last season, the 28-year-old was a surprise omission as Arsenal announced their team news for the Watford showdown, revealing the absence is a result of a “tight groin”.

No further information was given on the player’s situation, and it remains to be seen the degree of the condition, the possible recovery time, and for that matter his availability for his national team games.

Partey was named in Ghana’s 28 man squad for the crucial games against Ethiopia and South Africa this month.
Ghana will take on Ethiopia on Thursday, November 11 before facing South Africa on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Cape Coast stadium.

The Black stars have nine points on the Group G table, one point below leaders South Africa, while Zimbabwe and Ethiopia occupy the fourth and third positions with one and three points respectively.

Only the group winners will qualify to the third and final round of qualifiers.

Ghana now has two matches remaining to book a ticket through to final qualification round, away to Ethiopia and at home to South Africa which they must win to guarantee a place in the next round of qualification.
