Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has claimed that the University of Ghana (UG) Stadium was chosen as the host site for the MTN FA Cup this year because of its top-notch facilities.

Prior to the crucial match between Bofoakwa Tano and Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, June 23, he made this statement at a news conference.

The GFA President, Professor Gordon Awandare, UG Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic and Students Affairs), and Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Acting Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, were the event’s main speakers.

The GFA President explained in his speech why the rebuilt building meant to host the 2023 African Games was chosen to host Sunday’s major event.

“In our dear country, your institution boasts of the best football facility. This amazing beautiful trophy deserves to be associated with the very best when it comes to football infrastructure.”

“Within this vicinity (Legon enclave), we not only have a hundreds, thousands maybe millions of youth…so therefore we thought that if there is any venue that can have the best of attention, the best of patronage to create the amazing football ambiance and atmosphere that we want, it should be the University of Ghana.”

In an enormous encounter, Nsoatreman—who made an impression in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League—will square off against the relegated Bofoakwa Tano.

The game begins at 18:00GMT, or 6 p.m. local time.
