The Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Kpemka has told Citi News that the yet-to-be commissioned 10-storey complex for the GETFund has been allocated to the office of the Special Prosecutor.

The allocation was done on the order of President Akufo-Addo.

The building, which is located near the Parliament House was to serve as Head office of GETFund but according to Mr. Kpemka, the government expects the GETFund to continue to operate from their current location.

“It was a project that was meant for GETFund, the colossal sum that has been spent there. His Excellency the president prioritizes [the Office the Special Prosecutor] over it because GETFund as we speak now is not operating from the street so in the meantime, they should remain there while this critical office of national importance moves in there.”

The Special Prosecutor has previously complained about office accommodation describing his current space at Labone as limited.

He has indicated that the challenge makes his work difficult.

Parliament passed a law in November in 2017 to establish the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The Office, headed by Martin Amidu, is mandated to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption and corruption related offences under the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) and investigate allegations of corruption and corruption related offences under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) implicating public officers, politically exposed persons and persons in the private sector implicated in the commission of the alleged crimes.
