Real Tamale Utd caused a major upset in this weekend’s Ghana Premier League against leaders Asante Kotoko at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

The Tamale lads shocked the Porcupine Warriors with an impressive 2-1 win to hand Kotoko, a third defeat of the season.

Goals from Ronald Frimpong and Victor Aidoo were enough to give the home side a two-goal cushion before Cameroonian striker Franck Mbella Etouga pulled one back for the Porcupine Warriors.

Ronald Frimpong gave RTU the lead after converting from the spot in the 26 minute.

The home side went into the game on the back of only one win from their last six League matches and needed to play above themselves to beat the League leaders.

The Porcupine Warriors also came into the game with loads of confidence following their 1-0 win against rivals Hearts of Oak last weekend. Victor Aidoo increased the advantage for Real Tamale United in the 85th minute as he headed home a throw in from the right side to make it 2-0 to the Tamale lads.

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim misjudged his run as Aidoo soared high to head home the match winner in the 85 minute before Frank Etrouga pulled one back for Asante Kotoko.

Kotoko remains top of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League despite the loss and have an eight-point gap heading into the matchday 25 round of games.
