Executive Chairman of embattled McDan Aviation, Daniel Mckorley is calling for private management of the proposed national airline if it is to succeed this time around.

President Nana Akufo-Addo in his 2021 State of The Nation address, stated that Cabinet had granted policy approval for the establishment of a National Flag Carrier or Home Based Airline with strategic partner participation.

Ghana’s foray into the operation of a national carrier has been fraught with challenges as both Ghana Airways and the Ghana International Airlines which operated at different times within the past 2 decades were forced to suspend their operations after functioning for a number of years.

In an interview with Citi Business News, Dr. Mckorley noted that for the national carrier to succeed this time around, consistently excellent service must be prioritized.

“Aviation is business. It is not how much money you use to set up an aviation business, it’s how you manage it. I’m an entrepreneur, and in doing business, consistency must be your number 1 goal. So starting a national carrier is possible, but the question is how will it be managed?”

“Government can partner with the private sector to set up that national carrier and leave it in the hands of a private individual to manage. That will make it successful. So I am calling on the government to call on the private sector to start the national carrier and leave the management in the hands of the private sector,” he added.
