Ghana’s new look

The creation of the new regions became necessary following petitions submitted to the president by chiefs and opinion leaders in the six new regions.
The president, in line with the constitution and in consultation with the Council of State set up the Justice Brobbey Commission to look into the necessity for the regions.

After a thorough consultation with opinion leaders, the Commission issued a report justifying the necessity in the creation of the new regions.

As by law established a referendum was organized in the selected regions which saw overwhelming support for the creation of the new regions.

This has increased the number of regions from 10 to 16 with the Oti, Bono East, Western North, Savanna, North East and Ahafo Regions as the new additions.
