The President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo, is expected to take a one-week leave after a three-day official visit to France on an invitation by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The visit is aimed at deepening the ties of corporation and bonds of friendship between the two countries.
President Akufo-Addo is expected to meet with members of the Ghanaian committee but said, in his absence, the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will in accordance to with article 60 clause 8 of the constitution act in his stead.
Meanwhile the Majority leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu has dispelled reports that the planned construction of a new parliament complex for MPs will necessarily warrant an increment in the number of MPs.
Mr Kyei-Mensah Bonsu said though the 450-seater chamber will be able to accommodate 450 people, it doesn’t mean there will lead to an increase in the number of MP’s.
Lately the leadership of parliament has been criticized for its decision to construct a new $200 million complex.
But Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu stated that the public must first understand the purpose before criticizing.
Speaking on Accra base Citi FM, he indicated that the country has many misconceptions about the construction and must be patient in understanding the reasons behind it.
“We were thinking of a 450-seater chamber and that has been misunderstood. People think that it is a 450-member house but it is not,” he said.
He also expressed worry over what he calls the level of unwarranted attacks that has come his way following the decision to construct the new chamber.
“The decision has nothing to do with me. That is why it is most unfortunate that people are not discussing issues but are attacking it. I think that is most uninformed and most unfortunate. Don’t raise attacks if you don’t understand an issue,” he cautioned.
