As part of efforts to improve safety and security in the banking sector, the Ghana Police Service has met with officials of the Bank of Ghana and other relevant stakeholders in the sector.

This comes on the back of several attacks on cash-in-transit operations within the country.

The Ghana Police Service, in a Facebook post, noted that “the Police Administration is reviewing its strategy on the movement of cash across the country”, hence the meeting with officials of the Bank of Ghana, members of the Association of Bankers, and the Police Management Board.

The meeting, chaired by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, “highlighted new strategies being mapped out by the Police Service to counter cash-in-transit robbery attacks and the challenges that are encountered”.

The Ghana Police Service further assured players within the banking sector and members of the public that it is committed to ensuring a safe and secure atmosphere for the banking industry and guarantee the safety of all persons in the country.

Following the bullion van attack at Adedenkpo-Jamestown in June this year, the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Police Service have been implementing measures to ensure the safe transfer of money and other valuables around the country.
