Police begins analyzing flouters of 31st December prophesies directives

The Ghana Police Service has announced that its Service will begin analyzing public prophesies of some groups during the 31st December celebrations.

According to the Service, it has received several videos on prophecies and currently analyzing them.

The Police added that after the process, they will determine if these videos breached any laws of the country and anybody found culpable would be prosecuted.

“Multiple video footages have come to our attention regarding the communication of prophecies on the night of 31st December, 2021. Police have begun analyzing these videos to ascertain whether any of them Is In breach of the laws of the country and anybody found culpable will be put before the court,” a police statement on Thursday, said.

Background:

The Police in December cautioned Religious leaders in Ghana to be measured in their utterances, particularly the way they communicate prophecies, ahead of New Year Eve’s services.

The added that it is a crime for a person to publish or reproduce a statement, rumour or report which is likely to cause fear and alarm to the public or to disturb the public peace, where that person has no evidence to prove that the statement, rumour or report is true,” the police warned in a statement issued on Monday, December 27.

“We wish to reiterate that the law and the Police are not against religious practices or the performance of religious doctrines and beliefs such as prophecies. However, if such information is communicated publicly and undermine the laws of the state, the relevant laws and sanctions will be applied,” they added.
