In order to address the issue of the nation’s health facilities’ electricity supply, Parliament has instructed the Ministries of Energy and Health to work together to find a long-term solution.

The Tain District Hospital was disconnected from the national power grid by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) for over GH¢7 million, as disclosed by Adama Sulemana, the Member of Parliament for Tain.

The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, claimed that the hospital’s power had been restored; however, Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who presided over today’s meeting, stated that hospitals should not be subjected to power outages when providing healthcare.

NEDCo allegedly disconnected the medical facility in October due to the outstanding debt, but it was later reconnected following a number of interactions with the hospital’s management, the power distributor, and other significant stakeholders.

Adama Sulemana, the Tain MP, urged Parliament to force the government to pay for the electricity needed to keep the Tain District Hospital operating efficiently in a statement made on the floor of the legislature.
