Following a 0-0 draw in Pretoria, South Africa on Tuesday, April 9, Nigeria earned a spot in the global showcase and will play in their fifth Olympics Women’s Football Tournament in Paris 2024.

After competing in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the Super Falcons were able to qualify for their fifth Olympics thanks to the goalless draw.

The 11-time African champions entered the match with a 1-0 lead from the first leg in Abuja. They only needed a draw to guarantee a trip to Paris, and they did just enough to cause frustration for the reigning African champions, who were unable to breach their resilient defense.

Even though they were pushing forward in large numbers, Desiree Ellis’ team barely caused any problems for the Nigerian defense. Thembi Kgatlana came closest in the 48th minute when she was put through on goal, but her shot missed the mark.

After being set up by Kgatlana, Amogelang Motau had an opportunity to send the match into overtime in the 85th minute, but the keeper easily stopped her strike as the Super Falcons maintained their defensive discipline to preserve the outcome.
