The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has come under fire from the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, which has also given its internal auditor, Ridwan Kokroko, a two-week ultimatum to produce information regarding GH¢110,000 in unaccounted revenue.
Six AMA revenue collectors were found to have neglected to deposit GH¢151,000 into the assembly’s account, according to the Auditor General’s report.
In response, AMA officials state that while some of the money has been recovered, GH¢110,000 is still unaccounted for.
The situation is the result of the internal auditor’s negligence, according to committee chairman James Klutse Avedzi, who also stated that the money must be provided as a receipt within two weeks or a refund will be required.
“Don’t think that this committee doesn’t know anything. You are not doing your work as an auditor. You are not! I don’t believe that an officer is not well, and for that matter, the file cannot be retrieved.
“We are giving you two weeks to go and locate the file and show it to the auditors to ensure that lodgement had been made for these GH¢110,000 and if you fail, we will make you pay the money.”
