Black Stars gaffer, Otto Addo has once again reiterated that his side is aiming to win Ghana’s opening game encounter against the Portuguese on Thursday.
After missing out on the FIFA World Cup in 2018, the Black Stars are back on the biggest of stages at Qatar 2022.
Otto Addo, who took over the reins of Ghana after the Senior National team crashed out of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage earlier this year, in a pre-match conference set sights on three points as they open their Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against Portugal on Thursday.
“Our main focus is to win against Portugal, which will be very difficult. After that, we’ll look at the next step,” the Borussia Dortmund trainer said.
Ghana have been drawn in Group H along with Portugal, Korea Republic and Uruguay.
The Black Stars are the surprise package in what is a very strong group. While their performances en route to the World Cup were up and down to say the least, the squad has an interesting mix of experienced and talented players capable of winning matches at this tournament. It will be up to Addo as coach to find the right blend and give the team the self-belief it needs to shake things up in Qatar.
Addo says Ghana have set a primary target of qualifying from their opening group at the World Cup in Qatar.
“Surely we want to survive the group stage. We want to go game by game so our full focus is on the Portuguese game. If we don’t look too far and we concentrate on the next game, I think we can do something,” He added.
