The government has been urged by Organized Labor to take immediate action against unemployment and the unstable power supply, also referred to as “Dumsor,” which is having a negative impact on the economy.
The Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, spoke at this year’s May Day Parade with the theme “Election 2024: The Role of Workers and Social Partners in Securing Peaceful Elections.” He described the difficulties Ghanaians face as a result of “Dumsor.”
In order to ensure peaceful elections before, during, and after the general elections in 2024, he emphasized the significance of worker welfare.
“I would like to bring to the attention of our President that Organised Labour we’re concerned about a number of things. The first one has to do with the delay in the payment of pension contributors to 2nd tier schemes. Currently, the government owes the 2nd tier schemes a lot of money.
“My second appeal is about “Dumsor”, Mr President, it is regrettable that Ghanaians would have to experience “Dumsor” again after all what they went through in the past. Please do something about “Dumsor” now,” Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah appealed.
Along with expressing serious concerns about the high cost of living in the nation, the group called for a decrease in imports and an increase in domestic production.
He implored the government to ensure that state institutions are sufficiently outfitted to facilitate the electoral process.
