Kwabena Boateng

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Kwabena Boateng has won the Ejisu by-election.

While Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an Independent Candidate, received 21, 534 votes, or 43.3% of the total, Mr. Boateng received 27, 782 votes, or 55.8% of the total votes cast.

Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party, meanwhile, received 140 votes, or 0.3% of the total. With 89 votes, or 0.2% of the total, Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party was elected.

With 222 votes, or 0.4% of the total, independent candidates Joseph Agyemang and Atakora Joseph received 23 votes each.

Following the death of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament, on March 7, 2024, a by-election was held.

The contest was hotly contested, especially between Kwabena Aduomi, an Independent Candidate and three-time NPP member of parliament for the constituency.

Vote-buying allegations against Kwabena Boateng’s campaign have surfaced.

The Electoral Commission fired two temporary employees in reaction to bribery allegations. These people were seen purportedly accepting bribes during the Ejisu by-election in a widely shared video.
