Nine (9) people have been detained by the Ghana Police Service nationwide for spreading false information about the supposed disappearance of their genitalia, which incited attacks on defenseless civilians and spread fear and panic among the populace.

The Police stated in a brief statement that all of the claims were untrue after conducting investigations and medical exams.

For making such fictitious claims of missing genitals, six people have been arrested in Kasoa, in the Central Region; two in Ashaiman, in the Greater Accra Region; and one in Nkawkaw, in the Eastern Region.

Three (3) of the five (5) people who have been arraigned before the court have been placed under police custody, while two have been granted bail. The Police claim that the remaining individuals are out on Police inquiry bail and will be formally charged in court shortly.

Concerns were also voiced by the Ghana Police Service regarding the growing trend of people fabricating stories about their genitalia disappearing and blaming innocent bystanders, which can occasionally spark mob attacks.

“We want to warn the public against such criminal conduct that is likely to harm innocent people as well as disturb the public peace,” the statement continued.
