Accra Hearts of Oak and the Obuasi Ashanti Gold are into the semifinals of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup following their respective wins against Elmina Sharks and Kintampo Top Talents Saturday.
After a goalless draw at the end of a tense 90 minutes at Paa Kwasi Nduom Park the game between Hearts and Elmina Sharks proceeded to extra time but the Phobians got the winner in the 108th minute through a direct and firm free kick strike from defender Caleb Amankwah.
His goal was enough to keep Hearts of Oak’s hope of a domestic double alive, while Ashantigold defeated Kintampo Top Talent FC 4-2 in a thrilling encounter in Obuasi.
Frank Akoto opened the scoring after 16 minutes of play for the Miners.
On 28 minutes, attacker Prince Opoku Agyemang picked his spot slotted in the second after being allowed time and space to move the ball from the centre of the field .
AshantiGold right-back Kwadwo Amoako then scored a ridiculous own goal in the 35th minute – heading the ball back to Burkinabe goalkeeper Bailoul Mohammed who had picked the wrong spot.
Winger Paul Asare de Vries added the third for AshantiGold just three minutes into the second half while Amos Addai curled home a free-kick on the 70th-minute mark to make it 4-1.
Prince Sarkodie got another goal back for Kintampo Top Talent during time added on.
FA cup record holders, Hearts will face the winner of Sunday’s quarterfinals clash between Medeama SC and Attram de Visser Academy in the last four.
Ashantigold will either play Asante Kotoko or Berekum Chelsea in the semis.
