The Confederation of African Football has announced Morocco as the host for this year’s CAF Champions League Final.
According to CAF, it received a bid from the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022.
However, the Senegalese Football Federation subsequently withdrew their bid.
CAF added that its previous leadership headed by former President Ahmad Ahmad decided on 17 July 2019 that the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will be determined by a one-leg final, instead of the usual two-legged, home and away final.
Due to this, discussions are currently underway within CAF to revert to the old two-legged home and away final to determine the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, rather than the one-leg final.
Defending champions Al Ahly have one foot into the finals after an emphatic 4-0 win over Algeria’s ES Setif in Cairo in the 1st leg of the semis finals.
Also Wydad Athletic Club took a big step towards the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League thanks to a commanding 3-1 victory over Petro in Luanda in the first leg of the semi-finals.
The winners of the tie will battle it off in Morocco on the 30th of May 2022.
