A Vincent Atinga penalty gave Medeama SC a narrow win over Accra Hearts of Oak at the Akoon Park on Wednesday in their outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture.

The Match Day 6 fixture which was originally scheduled for December, was moved to January due to Heart’s involvement in the 2021/22 CAF Inter Club competitions.

Former Hearts center back, Atingah scored the only goal of the match to condemn his former club to their second defeat of the season.

Medeama SC have been overly impressive in the on-going campaign but did a good job on the Phobians – by holding them until the 82nd minute when Atinga connected from the spot.

Hearts of Oak defender Robert Addo Sowah run into Ahmed Toure inside the box as the Burkina Faso International stretched to reach a through ball.

The referee pointed to the spot and awarded a penalty in favour of the mauves and yellows. Vincent Atinga elected himself to take the kick and sent the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richmond Ayi the wrong way, slotting home calmly for the winning goal.

Hearts of Oak finished the game with 10 players as Kwadjo Obeng Junior was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.

The Phobians remain seventh on the league log but the Mauves and Yellow  moved to the fourth spot.
