The love of a good woman they say, changes a man for the better and that is the story of Hiplife artiste, Captain Planet, of 4X4 fame.
Captain Planet, who got married to former Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Uche Ofodile, almost five years ago, says the union has been more than a blessing to him.
According to him, although marriage was not all rosy, it had made him a better and more responsible person. “I am now more responsible because I am a family man. I need to take care of my wife and also my children at home.
“I respect everyone no matter their age and the kind of lyrics I write has even changed. For instance, I cannot write songs with swear words because of where I stand now,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview recently.
Combining marriage and music has not been easy for Captain Planet, real name Sylvanus Jeffrey Dodji, but he says he has found the balance.
“I cannot give 100 per cent to music and forget about marriage because the two are part of me. I am able to combine the two perfectly without any problem because I cannot do without one,” he said.
Captain Planet likes to look well put together every time and he tells Graphic Showbiz that he spends a lot on himself because appearances matter.
“I spend a lot on clothes because I believe in branding and packaging. Appearance is everything so looking good as an entertainer is never an option.
“They say dress how you want to be addressed, clothes make the man and naked people have little or no influence on the society,” he said.
While musicians who leave groups to pursue solo careers often have a hard time breaking through, Captain Planet says he has been able to break that trend.
“To win Music Video of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in 2018 and still make popular songs is a success story I would want to share.
“Songs such as Obi Agyi Obi Girl featuring Kofi Kinaata and I Miss You Die featuring KiDi and other songs I have released attest to the fact that I am making it,” he said.
Captain Planet, who is planning to release an album soon is out with a new single, Kpoli Kpoli. He explained that the song was inspired by a movie he watched about two high school students who liked each other but never got together and instead married other people.
