A 35-year old man has been arrested after he attempted to commit suicide in Parliament on Thursday.

The man who has been identified as Kojo Mensah from Kwesimintsim in the Western Region, was wearing a T-shirt [campaign paraphenerlia] under a long-sleeved shirt with the picture of the Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, Joseph Mensah embossed on it.

He was arrested after he entered the public gallery with a rope which he tied around a chair and threatened to jump from the first floor.

He was however restrained by the security and transferred to the Ministry police station.

The Police Commander at Parliament House, Superintendent Freeman Tettey said a criminal investigation has begun into his conduct.

It is not clear yet what may have forced the 35-year-old to attempt to take his life.

He was heard shouting and demanding to see the president when he was escorted out of the House to the Police station.
