The Obuasi Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly killing his 35-year-old girlfriend.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 7, 2021.

According to the police, the suspect, only known as Atadema, admitted to killing the girlfriend, Nancy Adjei after he saw a video on her phone making love to another man.

Police say after seeing the video on the girlfriend’s phone, it led to a confrontation between the two, leading to the death of the 35-year-old woman.

The police say the suspect secretly took the body of the deceased to a mortuary. The police, therefore, rushed to the scene and arrested the 24-year-old man upon a tip-off.

Speaking to Citi News, the Obuasi Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joseph Nyaba, indicated that the suspect will be arraigned on Wednesday 11, August 2021.

“Tomorrow [Wednesday], will be the day we will put the suspect before a court. He will be remanded into police custody for investigations to continue”, he said.

In the meantime, the Police Command says security in the area has been intensified following the incident.

Romantic relationship-related deaths have been on the rise in recent times.

Earlier in March 2021, residents of Ho in the Volta Region were thrown into a state of shock after a lady believed to be in her mid-twenties was found dead in a hotel room.

Reports indicated that Jay Dordorye, the boyfriend of the deceased, reportedly inflicted knife wounds on Harriet Kafui Ahiati (deceased) and attempted to commit suicide.

During the same period, one Philip Caesar Kumah, was accused of killing his girlfriend, Elizabeth Yesutor Akpalu.

Philip Kumah is alleged to have physically assaulted his girlfriend.

Prior to her death, Elizabeth is on record to have reported to the police that she was assaulted by the suspect in January, but later withdrew the case upon receiving medical attention.

The accused is also reported to have left scars on the deceased, and also damaged her car door handle in one of their confrontations.

Also, the Western Regional Police Command arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly killing his girlfriend with a hammer.
The incident reportedly happened on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Shama-Kumasi.

In May, for instance, a man believed to be in his 30s shot himself dead after he shot his girlfriend, Melody Owusu, who he allegedly caught with another man.

The incident happened at Alavanyo Wududi in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
