A Nigerian exporter in Accra, has expressed his displeasure of the closure of the Nigerian borders.
According the Jeff Silver, over 70% of Nigerians in other Neighboring countries within the ECOWAS community like Ghana, Benin, Togo, Cameroon are losing heavily since they all export from and import into Nigeria.
In an interview with the ECOWAS Express Goods Transport Exporter, the exporter said there is more to the closure of the borders than what is written on paper.
He noted that their goods coming from Nigeria are locked up at the borders, a situation which is imposing a huge financial burden on them.
“There is more to the closure of the border than what is written on paper. This is not favoritism on the side of Nigerians but politics by the Nigeria Government” he said.
Touching on the way out, he called on the Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari to address the fundamental issues rather than putting the businesses of his own people and citizens of other countries at a loss.
He said the action by the Nigerian government is inhuman with adverse impact on businesses.
Jeff Silver called on all presidents in Africa and within the ECOWAS community to be on their toes since their citizens are running at a loss.
“I think the best way out is for all presidents within the ECOWAS community to wake up and speak about this issue because their citizens are running at a loss. When citizens can’t make money how can they pay taxes. They must all find ways to solve this issue” he said.
