As of Sunday, May 19, the Electoral Commission (EC) reported that 522,025 people were registered to vote.
The commission described in detail how voters were distributed among the different regions: The Greater Accra region had 74,420 voters, or 14.3% of the total; the North East region had 14,147 voters, or 2.7%; the Upper East region had 20,135 voters, or 3.9%; and the Northern region had 47,948 voters, or 9.2%.
Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Operations at the EC, revealed this information on Tuesday at a press conference in Accra.
The Bono region had 20,886 registered voters (4%), the Bono East region had 18,861 voters (3.6%), the Volta region had 26,486 voters (5.1%), the Upper West region had 15,652 voters (4.0%), the Eastern region had 48,563 voters (9.3%), and the Central region had 56,141 voters (10.8%). 10,861 voters (2.1%) were registered in the Ahafo region; 90,480 voters (17.3%) in the Ashanti region; 16,225 voters (3.1%) in the Western North region; 14,844 voters (2.8%) in the Oti region; 12,767 voters (2.4%); and 33,609 voters (6.4%) in the Savannah region.
Tetteh reported that of the total number of voters who were registered, 246,455 were male (47.21%) and 275,570 were female (52.79%).
