Kumasi Asante Kotoko caused an upset in Dormaa on Saturday after recording a win over Aduana stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated the ‘Ogya Boys’ 2-0 in Match Day 11 fixture. George Mfegue and Richmond Lamptey scored in either half to give Kotoko their fourth away win of the season.

The Porcupine Warriors came into the game fresh from a 0-1 loss to King Faisal in the MTN FA Cup on Thursday and took a deserved lead in the 19th minute through George Mfegue who headed in a cross from Imoro Ibrahim.

Salifu Mudasiru’s long range effort came off the crossbar to deny Asante Kotoko a second goal in the 34th minute – much to the relief of the home fans who had their hearts in their mouth. .

Asante Kotoko was the better side in the first half and went into the break with the 1-0 lead.

Back from the break, Bright Adjei missed a glorious opportunity in the second half to get the equalizer for Aduana Stars in the 62nd minute as his shot went wide.

Aduana FC introduced talisman Yahaya Mohammed in the second half. The former Asante Kotoko player nearly fetched the equalizer for the home side in the 67th minute but his header went off target.

Danlad Ibrahim who started ahead of Razak Abalora pulled a brilliant save in the 86th minute to deny Aduana FC the leveller following delicious ball from Abass Mohammed.

Midfielder Richmond Lamptey tapped home from close range – what was easier to score than to miss in the 89th minute following an error between defender Derrick Boateng and goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

Aduana Stars have now lost twice at home in the on-going season after they suffered a 3-1 loss to King Faisal on Match Day Two. The result takes Asante Kotoko to the top of the table with 23 points – three points richer than King Faisal who host Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday.

Kotoko still have an outstanding game against archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
