Bareto

Asante Kotoko head coach, Mariano Barreto has been served with a two-match ban and a GHC3,000 fine by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee after being found guilty for misconduct.

The Portuguese was found to have violated the GFA Disciplinary Code after he made disparaging remarks about referees shortly after the game against Legon Cities.

Barreto has also been fined Ghs 5,000 for his infraction.

The Porcupine Warriors gaffer, was charged for breach of Article 38(8) (c) and 34(6) (d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 in respect of violations of the Associations Regulations.

Shortly after the match between Legon Cities FC and Asante Kotoko, Mariano Barreto made allegations against the referees by stating that Asante Kotoko SC played 11 against 15. The Portuguese also made verbal offensive statements about the performance of the referees by stating that the referee only makes mistakes against Asante Kotoko SC, a statement made without proof and brings the game into disrepute. Kotoko won 1-0 in that game.

Barreto responded to the charges but the Disciplinary Committee said his defense was “unconvincing” and slapped him with the ban and a fine.

The former Black Meteors coach by virtue of his ban will be unavailable on the touchline for the remaining two Ghana Premier League games this season against Elmina Sharks this weekend and at Bechem United a week later.
