The Ranking Member on the Transport Committee of Parliament has raised questions about the stark waste of state resources at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) under the management of Ghana Airport Company.

According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency in the Volta Region, Kwame Governs Agbodza the airport management company is heavily overstaffed.

He said there are staff sitting on the payroll of the company doing nothing.

He noted that the current situation where the electricity company of Ghana had to disconnect electricity at the airport as a result of debt is as a result of lack of diligence on the part of management is the lack of diligence on the part of the management of the facility.

He was of the view that the company’s books do not look good yet it has staff who are doing nothing and drawing salaries.

“How can a company that owes utility to the tune of GHS 40 million be buying a Christmas tree for over GHS 100,000”? he quizzed.

He said he has been reliably informed that the members of the ECG taskforce were advised not to cut supply to terminal three because of the consequences that will have on the image of the country.

“This is a company that is suffering yet spending like nobody’s business. There’s the need for prudent management on the part of the board and management,” he stressed.

He described the situation at KIA as a sad one and called on the management to sit up.
