Katanga – Conti hall clash: Two more arrested for involvement in riot

The Police have confirmed the arrest of one KNUST old Student and one Level-200 Student for their involvement in the Katanga – Conti hall clash last week.

According to a communique from the Police on Wednesday, suspect Francis Tutu Atuahene, alias Aroma, who is a level-200 student of the university was captured in a video holding an offensive weapon among others during the riot.

Whereas, suspect Daniel Osei Bonsu alias Saint, a former student of the university who completed in the year 2020 was also captured with others destroying property on the university campus.

The two were put before the Asokore Mampong Magistrate Court and have been remanded into police custody to reappear on 8th September, 2022.

This brings to three (3) the number of persons so far arrested.

The Police added that Investigation is still ongoing to get all other perpetrators arrested.

The disturbances, which begun last week Thursday, led to some school and private properties being vandalized.

This clash at KNUST comes as hall rivalries have received scrutiny in the wake of the violence between Mensah Sarbah Hall and Commonwealth Hall at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The Police Service have subsequently restored calm on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
