Former Black stars defender John Paintsil is displeased with the sacking of CK Akonnor as Black Stars head coach.

According to ex Fulham defender, the GFA’s sacking of CK Akonnor is a move in the wrong direction.

The GFA top hierarchy relieved Akunnor of his duties on Monday following Ghana’s topsy-turvy start to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars have struggled to shine under the former Wolfsburg captain, having won 1, drawn one and lost two of their last four matches.

A defeat to South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers triggered calls for his dismissal.

After 10 games at the helm of affairs, the Black Stars have won only four of those matches, scoring just one goal in their last four games.

“It’s not a nice feeling, when it happens to a coach, it is like it has happened to all of us,” Paintsil told Citi FM.

“However, this is the nature of a coaches’ job, sometimes you get a good start, other times you get a bad start.

“I would say that it is rather unfortunate, this is not the right time at all, he should have been given time to work on the team.

“When you look at his statistics and what he has done, you can tell that he came at the wrong time, and he didn’t get the chance to camp the players enough before most of the games. For me, it is very disappointing.”

Meanwhile, the GFA Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours.

Ghana returns to action in October with back-to-back clashes with Zimbabwe in their next two World Cup qualifying matches.
