The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has pledged to maintain the Asomdwee Park at the commemoration of President John Evans Atta Mills.
He said this in a remark read on his behalf by the NDC National Chairman at the 7th anniversary of the death of the late President.
“On behalf of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), I pledge that inasmuch as the Asomdwee Park falls under the purview of the State, we shall nonetheless play our part in efforts to maintain this Park for posterity” he stated.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo at the wreath-laying ceremony stated that the NDC would see to it that the Atta Mills library becomes functional.
“In my capacity as Chairman of the Party, I wish to add a few words in respect of the Atta Mills Memorial Library in Cape Coast; another monument dedicated to the honour of our late President. The leadership of the party supports the Organizing Team as it continues to pursue the matter with the original sponsors even as we also support new initiatives to mobilize the needed funds to ensure the full functioning of the Library as early as feasible” he said.
The Asomdwee Park, Ghana’s first presidential mausoleum, is the burial ground of the late president John Evans Atta Mills.
However, the park is in a state of disrepair and has become a haven for prostitutes, smokers, cattle headers and rodents.
