I’ve been playing out of position for quite some time in the national team – Jordan reacts to Black Stars win over CAR

Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew, a forward for the Black Stars, has acknowledged that he has occasionally been used out of position for Ghana’s national men’s football team.

After scoring a hat trick of goals in Ghana’s 4-3 victory over Central African Republic in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, he made this revelation in his post-game interview.

Instead of playing as a wing forward on either flank as he did in previous games against CAR, Jordan Ayew was employed as the primary central attacker.

In the rich history books of both sides, Kumasi witnessed one of its Black Stars’ most dramatic encounters.

The Group I match between the former African champions and the Central African Republic ended with a 4-3 victory for Ghana.

Jordan Ayew carried on from his crucial late goal against Mali the previous week, as his hat-trick added to the thrilling and high-scoring match that ended with Ghana winning all three points.

“To be honest, I’ve been playing out of position for quite some time in the national team…but it’s not a problem for me because I just want to play football but I’ve never complained or anything like that.”

“God’s time is the best and in life you never have to give up you just have to be patient and keep on working and believe in yourself and things will turn out being positive.”

Since 2017, Jordan Ayew is the first Black Stars player to record a hat trick.

Ghana’s victory moves them to the top of Group I with nine points. They will have to wait until Wednesday, June 11, 2024, for the results of the remaining games to find out where they stand in the standings. In March 2025, the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches will recommence.
