According to the National Identification Authority (NIA), the Pusiga District’s current Ghana Card registration campaign is “lawful, proper, necessary, and wholly wholesome.”

In a Facebook post, NDC Director of Elections and IT Dr. Edward Omane Boamah asserted that the registration drive in Pusiga was a politically motivated operation that was disguising itself as an IOM partnership.

He claimed that the NIA was there “just to help illegal voters in the final stages of the voter registration process.”

However, the NIA denied these allegations in a statement released on Wednesday, May 22, underlining that its priority is guaranteeing precise identification for Ghanaian populations that are at risk, particularly those residing close to the Ghana-Burkina Faso border.

The objective is to make border crossings simple, provide access to public services, and improve border area security.

In order to promote economic, social, and political development, the NIA reiterated its commitment to registering all Ghanaians, both domestically and overseas, and providing them with Ghana Cards. This mission involves working with other entities in accordance with legal guidelines, and it goes beyond the NIA alone.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NIA will continue to carry out its mandate of registering Ghanaians in Pusiga and environs aimed at expanding access to the Ghana Card and thereby improving identification and border security in that part of Ghana,” it added.
