The Ghana Police in a statement have confirmed killing two suspected armed robbers in a shootout while four others have been arrested for their alleged involvement in some robberies and murder cases along the Kintampo — Buipe — Tamale Highway.
According to a statement issued by the Police signed by the Acting Director-General of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori, the suspects were behind many robberies including the killing of an International Journalist, Syed Taaley Ahmed, a week ago.
They added that the two slain robbers identified as Hamidu Umaru and Haadu were killed after some gun exchanges with the Police Intelligence and Operational teams. The detained suspects are Saaju Bukari, Bertor Saabi, All Amadu and Isaad Seidu.
The Intelligence-led operations by the Special Anti-Robbery Task Force led to the retrieval of 2 locally manufactured pistols and live cartridges, machetes, bayonets, pepper spray cans and stun guns.
Some suspected stolen items were also retrieved including mobile phones and motorbikes.
The Police Administration revealed it has instituted some rigorous measures to effectively combat serious crimes that have plagued the area over the past few years.
It therefore, urged the public to collaborate with the Police by providing credible information on suspected criminals for swift and immediate action.
