The Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril has reiterated his determination to enforce the ban on logging and commercial production of charcoal in the region.

The Minister gave a 30-day ultimatum for persons involved in such activities to cease operations in the region or be dealt with.

Speaking at a ceremony to hand over equipment to the Mole National Park by the Australian High Commission in Mole, Mr. Jibril said he will be meeting all paramount chiefs in the region to seek their support to enforce the ban.

“When it comes to protecting the ecology of the region, we are determined to do that, I will be meeting all paramount chiefs in the region on the 21st of this month to seek their support in this direction.”

Mr. Jibril said “I am giving you my word that we will stop logging and commercial production of charcoal in this region because it is hampering our very survival, we have never experienced this kind of heat in Damongo, and it’s all because of climate change, so the ban will be enforced.”

He called on stakeholders such as the forestry commission to support the efforts of the regional security council in ensuring it succeeds in the fight.
