Accra Hearts of Oak have been ordered to play the rest of their Ghana Premier League matches behind closed doors after they breached COVID-19 protocols in their 2-0 defeat to local rivals Accra Great Olympics, Saturday night.
In a letter signed by the Ghana Football Association’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, the exact nature of the violations were not stated but the Phobians have been referred to the Disciplinary Committee and ordered to play all games without fans until the matter is determined.
The decision comes after a derby clash between the Phobians and Olympics in which Covid protocols were reportedly breached.
Fans were seen mostly unmasked, seated at close proximity to each other shouting and jubilating in flagrant violation of the Covid protocols.
Per the FA rules on Covid 19 protocols, the clubs should not exceed a 25% capacity during match days and the fans must adhere to the protocols once they get into the stadium.
With Ghana’s Covid 19 cases on the rise, the FA is expected to be stringent against clubs who violate the protocols or have the premier league suspended again.
