Following a violent incident at the Kasoa office of the Electoral Commission, four individuals have been injured. Because of the severity of his wounds, one of the injured has been moved to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were involved in the violence, which started at around 5 a.m.

An eyewitness claimed that the fight started because of a quarrel over voters waiting in line to cast ballots for the constituency.

After being stabbed in the chest during the incident, Ato Koomson, the son of the MP of Awutu Senya East Constituency Mavis Hawa Koomson, was taken to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Additionally, three NDC members were hurt and admitted to the Kasoa Polyclinic.

“At around 4:30, we got information that there was a misunderstanding over the seating arrangement at the centre. And so we got there and noticed that the issue was escalating. Ato Koomson the son of MP Hawa Koomson came around and tried to maintain peace but one gentleman from the NDC resisted and decided to attack Ato Koomson instead.

According to Mike Addy, the NPP’s Awutu Senya East constituency secretary, “the police have arrested the gentleman in question and so we will follow up later” to Citi News.

In addition to denouncing the incident, the NDC communication bureau in Awutu Senya East blamed the New Patriotic Party for the problems in a statement.

The incident was characterized in the statement signed by the NDC’s constituency communication officer in Awutu Senya East Delali Seworkpor as “another instance of aggression and lawlessness perpetuated by the New Patriotic Party.”

The statement went on to accuse the violence’s instigator, the son of sitting MP Mavis Hawa Koomson.

“We are keenly observing how the cops are handling the situation. The NDC constituency organizer Daniel Techie Mensah was taken into prison by the police, a move that “raises questions about the impartiality of the police and appears selective,” the statement said in part.

Since then, two people have been detained by police in connection with the incident, one of them is the NDC’s constituency organizer.
