The Ghana Re-construction of Anomaly and Trauma Fund (GRAFT), a health-based Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) through its Hope Project is making a return to the Volta and Oti regions with free re-constructive surgeries, after five years.

Some anomalies to be corrected are cleft lip and palate, post burn contractures, extra fingers and toes, fused fingers and toes, tumours and swellings, genital filariasis, and hypospadias among others.

Screening and selection of patients will be held from 7th to 10th May, 2019 in Ho at the Regional hospital, Aflao at the Denu District Hospital and the Dambai Health Centre in the Oti Region.

Free surgeries for successful patients are scheduled from 1st to 8th June, 2019 at Trafalgar, Volta Regional Hospital.

The Foundation since its inception in 2009, provided free re-constructive plastic surgery to over 1000 patients across Ghana and West Africa.

Dr Brainerd Anani, Projects Director of the Foundation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noted that, since its last surgery in the Region in 2014, no re-constructive plastic surgery NGO had provided the needy with those services.

Dr Anani said 2019 Volta/Oti campaign was to restore hope of people who needed re-constructive surgery to feel accepted in society.

He said the Foundation was targeting over a hundred needy people living in the Volta and Oti Regions for free screening and surgeries.

Dr Anani said the surgeries were free, but advised patients to come with their National Health Insurance cards for beds and some consumables where necessary.
