The Ghana Revenue Authority says it will begin a massive sensitization on the second phase of the Integrated Tax Returns Preparation System (I-TAPS).
Deputy Commissioner of the Authority, Mr Daniel Edisi says sensitization process had to be rescheduled to second quarter of 2020, to allow businesses to concentrate on the Christmas festivities.
He was speaking to Cedidollar’s Faith Mabel Tannor, Monday.
The country has over the last few years missed its revenue targets, a situation that has greatly affected government’s development projects.
The GRA had only recently introduced an Integrated Tax Returns Preparation System (I-TAPS), an E-Service platform to improve the quality of tax returns submitted by taxpayers.
It is also to improve Ghana’s ranking on ease of doing business, assist tax payers to keep records required to fulfill their tax obligations, reduce cost and time required by taxpayers to comply with tax laws, improve tax administration diagnostic tools and to provide a convenient, simple and accurate means for taxpayers to compute their tax returns and liabilities.
According to Commissioner for Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD), Mr Patrick Frimpong – Danso ITAPs has three phases, all of which are meant to help improve the quality of tax returns.
He said the first phase of ITAPS was deployed in April 2019 for personal income taxpayers with about 5,983 registered individuals on the ITAPs portal as at September 2019.
Mr Frimpong–Danso said the second phase of ITAPS which focuses on training staff and the general public on the usage of ITAPs was to commence in November but that has been rescheduled.
