GPL: RTU fail to honour match against Great Olympics

After missing their Ghana Premier League match against Great Olympics on Sunday afternoon, Real Tamale United (RTU) could face serious repercussions from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This event comes after a scandal from midweek in which RTU used unregistered players in their remarkable encounter against Dreams FC, losing 8-1 in Dawu.

RTU’s problems were made worse when they failed to show up for their league game versus Great Olympics in Accra, which the GFA is currently looking into.

RTU did not attend, even though players from the Great Olympics and match officials showed there and warmed up. Three points is what Great Olympics are anticipated to receive, which might or might not be enough to keep them from being demoted.

RTU, already demoted, waits to see what will happen to them. They had already expressed regret for the unregistered player situation and clarified that they didn’t mean to make fun of the league.

RTU acknowledged their mistake and said, “The action was never deliberate and was never intended to ridicule our beautiful game,” in a statement addressing the problem.

“The club has gone through some difficult moments this year, a situation that is culminating in our exit from the Premier League.”

“The club, however, courts for mercy and sympathy from the general public and the GFA as we strive to reorganize and build a team that all of us will be proud of. We express our regret again and assure that this will never happen again. The club is sorry.”
